The brownie is a delicious dense cake originating in the United States which owes its name to the brown color that the cocoa gives it.

It was created by serendipity: at the end of the 19th century, a cook forgot to add baking powder to the chocolate cake he was making, so it didn't rise and turned out flat and dense, with that texture and intense flavor that arouse such passion all over the world today.

Brownies may include walnuts, chocolate chips, caramel, peanut butter or dried fruit among their ingredients, as well as a topping of melted dark chocolate, date caramel, powdered sugar or extra cocoa powder, among others.

In this case, we have made it by adding small pieces of chocolate to the batter, which gives it a smooth outside and a tender inside from which delicious melted chocolate oozes, making for an even moister and more irresistible brownie.

Notes

If you prefer, you can add chopped walnuts or any other nuts you like, peanut butter or dried fruit.

If you do not consume it on the same day, we recommend heating the brownies a little just before eating them so that the pieces of chocolate inside melt and the experience is even more irresistible.

When selecting vegetable margarine, check that it is not hydrogenated and that it does not contain palm oil or any ingredient of animal origin (Eg: Flora brand olive margarine has gelatin among its ingredients).

Step 1
Preheat the oven to 175 °C and, with a knife, cut the chocolate into small pieces.
Step 2
In a small bowl, combine the ground flax seeds and the water and let them hydrate for 15 minutes.

In another bowl, combine the melted margarine, the oil and the sugar and whisk until the ingredients are well mixed.

Step 4
Add the flax and water mixture and the vanilla extract and whisk again until all the ingredients are well combined.
Step 5
Sift the flour, cocoa powder and salt and add them to the mixture, folding gently with a spatula or wooden spoon, taking care not to overmix so the texture isn't spoiled.

Add the chocolate pieces to the mixture and stir briefly to distribute them evenly throughout the batter. Pour the mixture into a 20 cm x 20 cm baking tin lined with parchment paper and smooth the surface with a spatula.
Step 7
Cover the pan with parchment paper and bake for 25 minutes. After this time, turn off the oven and wait 10 more minutes before taking the pan out.
Step 8
Take out the pan, uncover it and wait for the brownie to cool to room temperature so it can be cut. Once cooled, cut it into small squares and serve.
